EINDHOVEN LOVES YOU presents: LOVE LETTERS TO EINDHOVENApril 21 – May 6, Central Station Eindhoven
A celebration of love in all its forms—written by hand, offered to the city, and displayed in a living sculpture.
Last year on King’s Day, something quietly magical happened at Central Station Eindhoven.
Someone—a Dutch legend, traveling the country like a tourist in his own homeland—brought me red wine and colorful roses. We spent seven uninterrupted hours beneath the King's Day rain: talking, laughing, existing. It was our only meeting, and yet something about that connection—unpredictable, potent, ephemeral—stayed.
He never came back. But the energy never left.
Instead of letting absence break my heart, I transformed it. I channeled the mystery, the spark, the tenderness—into creativity. That singular encounter catalyzed an entire chapter of my life, including Trash School, and now culminates in this offering:
LOVE LETTERS TO EINDHOVEN—a public art initiative inviting everyone passing through Central Station to pause and write a love letter.
Write to Eindhoven, or through it. Write to a person, a feeling, a memory. Write as an act of healing or rebellion or joy. This is an invitation to honor love in whatever form you’ve known it—and to remember that sometimes a city is only the context. Love is the real story.
Your handwritten letter becomes part of a collaborative installation: The Tree of Love, a 2.5-meter sculpture made of upcycled materials sourced from Emmaus Eindhoven, built over three creative reincarnations—from Dutch Design Week 2022 to Sustainable Fashion Playground, now reborn in this immersive expression of emotion, memory, and reflection.
Decorate the Tree with red, black, and white elements—colors that represent the spectrum of human experience. And hidden among the branches, you may notice a touch of blue—a quiet tribute to the one who inspired it all. A whisper of the hat he wore. A thread of presence, just enough to remember without naming.
This project hopes to rekindle the act of writing by hand— To offer people a moment to reflect, remember, and reconnect. To reimagine how we relate to discarded things, and maybe even, to ourselves.
COME WRITE YOUR LOVE LETTER. ADD IT TO THE TREE OF LOVE. LET IT BECOME PART OF A CITYWIDE TAPESTRY OF MEMORY.
This installation is part of Eindhoven Loves You, a city-wide initiative honoring love, connection, and creative expression in public space.
